Odoo vs Zoho.
Where each one actually wins.
We are an Odoo partner - we have a position. But this is not a hit piece: Zoho is genuinely good and often cheaper for sales-led small teams, and we say exactly when it is the better buy in the "when Zoho wins" section. The rest is where Odoo's ERP depth and code ownership pull ahead.

The 7 lines that decide it
Price is not the real divider here - capability depth and ownership are. Each row is the answer most comparison sites bury.
| Dimension | Odoo | Zoho |
|---|---|---|
| Annual licensing (50 users, full suite) | ~$19,000 (Enterprise, all apps) | ~$22,000 (Zoho One, all apps); much less for CRM-only |
| Implementation cost (mid-market) | $40k - $150k | $10k - $60k (lighter, shallower scope) |
| Time to go-live | 8 - 16 weeks | 4 - 10 weeks |
| Customization access | Open-source - full Python ORM + data model | Deluge low-code, closed platform, no source |
| Self-hosting option | Yes (Odoo.sh, on-prem, AWS) | No - Zoho cloud only |
| Manufacturing / advanced inventory | Native MRP, WMS, multi-step routes, PLM | Light (Zoho Inventory: stock + orders, no real MRP) |
| Best for | Operations-heavy SME and mid-market | Sales / marketing-led small business |
5-year TCO
What 50 users actually costs (operations scope)
Scope: ERP + CRM + Inventory + Accounting + light Manufacturing. On price these two are close - for a CRM-only deployment Zoho is materially cheaper (we say so below). The gap shows up when a low-code suite has to be stretched into real ERP. Numbers are mid-band benchmarks; your quote varies.
| Cost line | Odoo | Zoho |
|---|---|---|
| Odoo Enterprise license, 50 users x 5 years | $95,000 | - |
| Zoho One license, 50 users x 5 years | - | $111,000 |
| Implementation (operations scope) | $80,000 | $50,000 |
| Third-party apps + integration to fill ERP gaps (5y) | included | $40,000 |
| Annual customization & maintenance (avg) | $25,000 x 5 = $125,000 | $18,000 x 5 = $90,000 |
| 5-year TCO (rounded) | $300,000 | $291,000 |

Buyer questions
Things every buyer asks before signing
Is Zoho cheaper than Odoo?+
For a CRM or sales-only deployment, yes - clearly. Zoho CRM starts around $14/user/month and Zoho One is about $37/user/month for the whole catalog. But for a full ERP suite the two are close: 50 users on Zoho One over 5 years is roughly $111k versus about $95k for Odoo Enterprise all-apps. The real cost difference is not the license - it is whether a low-code suite can cover your operations, or whether you pay again in third-party apps, integration and workarounds.
Can Zoho do manufacturing like Odoo?+
No. Zoho Inventory handles stock, orders and basic fulfilment, but there is no real MRP: no bills of material with multi-level routing, work orders, capacity planning, PLM or quality/maintenance the way Odoo Manufacturing ships them natively. If you actually make or assemble things, Odoo is a different category of product here.
How customizable is Zoho versus Odoo?+
Zoho customization runs through Deluge, a proprietary low-code scripting language, inside Zoho's closed cloud - you cannot change the underlying data model or read the source. Odoo is open-source: you get the full Python ORM, every model definition and the entire codebase. For non-standard processes that grow over time, Odoo's ceiling is much higher.
Can I self-host Zoho?+
No. Zoho is cloud-only on Zoho's infrastructure. Odoo can run on Odoo.sh, on-premise, or your own AWS/Hetzner - useful when data residency, an exit plan, or full infrastructure control matter.
Is Zoho good for UAE VAT and localization?+
Yes - Zoho Books supports UAE 5% VAT and FTA returns, so localization is not the deciding factor here. Both handle UAE tax well; Odoo adds Rteam's local extensions. Choose on depth and ownership, not basic VAT.
When is Zoho the better choice?+
When you are a small, sales or marketing-led business, CRM is the heart of the system, budget is tight, and you have no manufacturing and only light inventory. In that profile Zoho is faster to launch, cheaper, and we will tell you to take it. Odoo earns its keep once operations, customization or ownership become the priority.
Can we migrate from Zoho to Odoo?+
Yes. Contacts, deals, products, invoices and accounting data migrate via standard exports. Deluge functions are rewritten as Python, and Zoho Creator apps are re-modeled as proper Odoo modules. The clean part is master data; the work is reproducing custom automations in a real ORM.
