The Challenge
UK supply chain company running Odoo 15 Enterprise with 70+ custom modules facing end-of-support, broken integrations, and legacy technical debt — migrated to v19 with full data integrity and zero business disruption.
Custom Module Debt at Scale -70+ custom modules built over 8 years against Odoo 15 patterns that no longer exist in v19. Framework shift to OWL, database query changes, security model evolution, and API restructuring meant every module needed manual audit. No automated migration path was available.
The Integration Web -8 external systems woven into the platform: WooCommerce, Microsoft 365, HMRC Making Tax Digital, Creditsafe, Mailchimp, Smartsheet, 3CX. Each integration was custom-built against Odoo 15's API surface. Version upgrades changed authentication, endpoints, and data mapping -integrations were failing silently in development and threatening production go-live.
UK Regulatory Compliance Gap -Making Tax Digital (HMRC VAT), EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging), and ISO 9001/14001/45001 compliance modules were deprecated or broken. Platform was drifting into non-compliance, creating legal and audit risk.
Warehouse Complexity -Manual stock assignment with 3D visualization, no-negative-stock controls, reservation tracking, 3PL workflows, and multi-warehouse inventory transfers. Custom logic had evolved outside the standard Odoo stock module -replicating this behavior in v19 while maintaining data integrity was high-risk.
Manufacturing & MRP Depth -Non-trivial workflows: BoMs with multiple routing variations, work order sequencing with resource constraints, quality control checkpoints at multiple production stages, maintenance scheduling, and custom standard cost calculator modules. All required preservation and optimization for v19.
The Solution
Staged Migration Pipeline -Rather than a direct v15→v19 leap, Rteam designed a 4-stage pipeline: v15→v16 (foundational API changes), v16→v17 (OWL framework transition), v17→v18 (API surface changes), v18→v19 (performance + new features). Each hop allowed stabilization, testing, and compatibility resolution before moving forward.
Complete Custom Module Audit & Re-Engineering -Three-developer team (Leonid Kolesnychenko lead, with Wojciech Betyna and Danylo Liniychuk) ran code review against v19 patterns, dependency mapping, business logic extraction, test suite development, and performance profiling. Each of 70+ modules re-engineered incrementally with staged validation -business logic fully preserved while modernizing the technical foundation.
Integration Modernization -All 8 external integrations rebuilt against current APIs: WooCommerce on REST API v3 with OAuth, Microsoft 365 on Graph API (replacing deprecated Office 365 endpoints), HMRC MTD on current Bridge API, Creditsafe on latest version, Mailchimp Marketing Automation API, Smartsheet native REST, and 3CX on v19 phone integration framework.
UK Regulatory Compliance Rebuild -Making Tax Digital module built from scratch for HMRC Bridge API with real-time VAT calculation and submission. EPR modules re-engineered with product lifecycle tracking and regulatory reporting. ISO 9001/14001/45001 management system modules updated. All statutory and audit reports rebuilt to UK accounting standards.
Warehouse & Manufacturing Logic Preservation -Stock assignment re-architected with 3D visualization in v19. No-negative-stock enforcement integrated with advanced inventory controls. 3PL fulfillment workflows rebuilt with updated API patterns. MRP and work order management optimized for v19 manufacturing.
